Team and roles

Three roles, one studio

Everyone works on the same projects, and each role does what it should.

Three roles

Clear rights on every project

  • Owner

Everything, including fees, the plan, the team and deleting a project.

  • Team member

Runs the projects: the plan, the client link, drawings and extra work.

  • Intern

Prepares visits, snags, queries, items and drafts for review.

  • Checked on the server

The same rules apply beyond the app. A refused action changes nothing.

  • Work stays when people go

Remove a teammate and everything they added stays.

  • Alerts for the right people

The owner and team members get phone alerts. Interns do not.

How it works

Add a teammate

  1. Open Team

In the menu, or in Settings. Only the studio owner sees it.

  2. Invite by email

Enter their email and tap Send invite, or pick them from your contacts in the app.

  3. Set their role

Team member or Intern. Every invite starts as Team member.

  4. They land in your studio

They continue with that email, on the web or in the app.

FAQ

Team questions

How many people can I add?

Studio includes you and 1 teammate, and Firm includes you and 2 teammates. Plans are priced per studio, not per person, and your clients never need a seat.

What can an intern not do?

An intern cannot delete anything, send extra work to the client, switch the client link, archive or create projects, or see fees. Their drawings stay hidden until a team member or the owner shows them.

Can I change someone's role later?

Yes. In Team, the owner can set each person to Team member or Intern at any time. Only the studio owner can change roles.

What happens to their work if someone leaves?

Remove takes them off the studio straight away. Everything they added stays in your projects.

Bring your team in

Teammates start on the Studio plan. Your clients never need a login.

More about team and roles

Roles for a small design studio

Most studios have a principal, one or two designers who run the jobs, and juniors or interns who do the groundwork. Blueprint uses the same three roles on every project: owner, team member and intern. Each person has their own login into your studio, and when something is not theirs to do, the button gives way to a short note, such as Withdraw, only the owner can do this.

Who does what

  • Owner: everything, including fees and whether they show on the client link, the plan and billing, the team, deleting a project, withdrawing or restoring approved work, revising a final drawing, cancelling an order and reopening a closed stage.
  • Team member: runs the projects. Sets up and edits the stage plan, starts and closes stages, decides what the client sees, sends drawings and extra work, revises approved drawings and moves them to the final set, turns the client link on or off, and archives projects.
  • Intern: prepares the work. Adds site visits, snags, queries, items and to-dos, adds drawings as hidden drafts, and edits their own until it is verified, fixed, answered or sent. Interns also mark snags fixed, answer queries, tick tasks and move items along.

Why roles beat a shared login

Sharing one password, or adding everyone to a chat group, means anyone can send anything to a client. With roles, anything that reaches your client goes through a team member or the owner. An intern can prepare a drawing, but it stays hidden until someone senior shows it, and their request lands in Do this next as Show it.

The rules are checked by Blueprint's servers too, not only hidden in the app, so a refused action never changes anything. The stage history records who did what and when, and nobody can edit it.

Inviting and removing people

Only the studio owner sees Team. Invite a teammate by email, or pick them from your contacts in the phone app, and they land straight in your studio. The People list shows who is active and who is still invited, and you can send an invite again or cancel it. Remove takes someone off the studio at once, and everything they added stays.

Studio includes you and 1 teammate, and Firm includes you and 2 teammates. See pricing. Your client is never part of the team: they use the client link, with no login.
