FAQ
Extra work questions
Is extra work the same as a variation or change order?
Yes. Extra work is Blueprint's name for any addition, change or saving beyond the agreed brief, often called a variation or a change order.
Does my client see drafts?
No. Extra work is saved as a draft only your studio sees. Your client sees it once a team member or the owner taps Send to client, with the client link on.
What if the client signed a paper copy?
The owner taps Mark approved (signed copy) and adds a note, for example who signed and where the copy is kept.
Can extra work lower the fee?
Yes. For a saving, the owner taps Take off fees and adds a credit line, or lowers a fee stage that still has that much to collect.

More about extra work
Variations, approved before they start
Every project grows. The client asks for a second wardrobe, a different worktop, a wall moved. If the extra cost and time are only agreed on a call, the final account becomes an argument. Extra work in Blueprint puts each change on record with its cost, extra or a saving, and its time in days, before the work starts.
Add it as a draft first; only your studio sees it. When it is ready, a team member or the owner sends it, and your client approves it or asks for a change on their client link. A change request comes back with their note. Make the change and send it again.
What happens once it is approved
- Approved extra work is locked, so the record matches what the client agreed.
- Its days add to the time of the stage it belongs to. On the timeline they show as a hatched tail, such as +5 days extra work, so on time and late stay fair.
- The owner can add the cost to the fees, or take a saving off them.
- Every item has a PDF extra work note with the change, its cost or saving, its days and its status.
Better than a message saying go ahead
A thumbs-up in a chat is easy to give and hard to find months later. A spreadsheet of variations needs someone to keep it, and it rarely shows what the client actually saw. Here the client approves the very item you sent. If they signed a paper copy instead, the owner records it with Mark approved (signed copy) and a note on who signed and where the copy is.
Extra work in the menu shows every item across your projects: what is with clients, what needs revising, and what is approved but not yet in the fees. Filter a project's Extra work tab by stage to see what each step added.
What your client sees
Your client sees each piece of extra work you send, with its details, cost and days, and approves it or asks for a change. Drafts never reach them. If you cancel an item, it leaves their page and stays in your record with the reason.
Client approval needs the client link, from the Pro plan; adding extra work to the fees needs fees, from Solo. See pricing.
